Talitha Kumi Scout Troop was established in 1995. Since then, we have made immense progress, both in our area and with connections abroad, as well as in terms of our Scout activities. Our motto is “Be prepared” which is the motto of Scouts worldwide. Today, our group has 120 members, and the number is still increasing.
One thing that is part of our life as Scouts is camping. We hold a camp every summer, which usually lasts for two weeks. During this time, we do as much for promoting Scout knowledge and techniques as possible. We do hiking, we learn “First Aid”, we teach Scouts how to tie knots and, of course, we use all the Talitha Sports facilities to do sports and teach our Scouts games, and other usefull skills.
The Talitha Kumi Scouts were invited to join an international camp initiated by the VCP, a German Scout organization. The twelve Boy & Girl Scouts and guides represented Talitha Kumi and Palestine in a brilliant way. Their dance in the closing ceremony got terrific applause from the audience, and it was nice to see the Israeli Scouts wave their flag at us in admiration of our dance. We were allowed to raise our flag in front of our tents, so that everyone could see: We are Talitha Scouts! At this camp, we made lots of international contact- 24 different nations were represented here! We were even invited by foreign troops to visit them.
At home we are also very active. We
have just finished a course by some firemen who came to teach us some of their
techniques and we look forward to organizing other similar courses in the
future.
Another activity that our boys and girls like is the band. We have 20 small
drums, 2 big drums, 1 pair of castanets, six bagpipes and two trumpets. We are
thinking of adding some more instruments to our band. The band practices two
times a week and we show our ability at school events, for example the visit of
the Foreign Minister of the Federal Republic of Germany Dr Klaus Kinkel, in
1997.
At this point we would like to thank everyone who supported us morally and
financially for all their friendly gifts. We want to name three persons in
particular: our headmaster Mr. Goller and two great friends without whom we
could not have achieved all we have: Mrs. Sigrid Mosbach and Mr. Jacob Seibel.
We still have a lot to do and we have
lots of wishes and goals for the future. Here are some of the things we look
forward to:
1.More coordination with the VCP so that we can learn from them and make further
progress in all ways.
